Sunday Psalms and Stories

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
  his love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story -
  those he redeemed from the hand of the foe.
                                         Psalm 107:1-2

I've always loved looking at this old picture of me. My husband and I were married on Thanksgiving weekend nineteen years ago. This picture was taken at The Homestead Resort on our ninth anniversary and it was one of the best trips we've taken. Let me assure you, we've had some terrible anniversary trips!

But this one was extra special. I remember we left our daughters with his mother after Thanksgiving dinner and drove to the resort, which was already decorated for Christmas. We grossly underestimated how cold it would be in the mountains near West Virginia, so both of us were freezing when we took this picture during a falconry class. Though it was amazing, I was petrified of this falcon. He hung upside down on his trainer's leather gloved hand and was on the hunt for "mice treats."

But what made this trip so amazing was the surrounding countryside. Bath County, Virginia is serene and pastoral farmland. I felt completely connected to the everything about the area.
                                 At home, somehow.

I remember telling my husband that I could easily live there and I made him drive me around the town and its famous hot springs.

So imagine my surprise a few weeks ago, when I discovered that this same land is where my ancestors are from. When I discovered my ancestral roots on my dad's side, it led me to this land. We farmed it for years.
                                         I love when God surprises us like this.

Blessings for a wonderful Sunday.  He is faithful and wonderful!

  3. Thanks for the comments friends! Each time I've felt a connection to a place or land, I usually end up finding a surprising family link. I think we may be more spiritually attracted to places than we realize:)
