Loving God

I'm thinking a lot about love lately. As my children mature into teenagers (an oxymoron by the way), I realize I haven't done a very good job teaching them about love. I guess I thought it'd just happen; we'd love them and they'd love us back. Even though my own brother and I regularly pounded one another in order to sit shotgun, I imagined things would be different for my kids, because we believe in Jesus.

I assumed that because we pour our love out on them, it would ooze out of them by way of osmosis.

God has reminded me that Adam and Eve had Him, even walked in the garden with Him, but Cain still killed Abel even though he was in the Lord's presence.

We've attended two churches in the life of my children and both of their mottos are:

"Love God, Love People/Others....."

But I'm not sure my children really know what love is and I'm scrambling to teach them in the best way I can. Don't get me wrong, my kids know how to receive love and they know how to help others and give stuff. That's a shallow sort of love.

True love runs deep.

   True love gives self.

True love doesn't have a "comfort zone".

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16
