Peace

I'm not sure how I got there this morning, but in my quiet time I landed in Luke 2:8-15 - when the shepherds visit the newborn Jesus. Now my heart is filled with the joy of Christmas! In September! Sorry for the excitement, I'm usually cynical about the commercialism of it all.

I'm particularly struck by the praise of the heavenly host:

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." Luke 2:14

Here's a common Christmas phrase...Peace on Earth.

But in my NIV Bible, the phrase is: on earth, peace to men. Peace to men on whom his favor rests. I praise Him because I have it. I have his peace and it's more precious to me than ever because for so long it was all I prayed for. If I hadn't felt the absence of it, it may be one of those things I take for granted.

What about you? Do you have His peace?

  1. I just checked in and loved the post - perfect for my birthdate. I had no peace for sooooo long, and all I can do lately is thank God for His generous blessing. This period of peace and rest and blessing that He is allowing me to enjoy right now is so wonderful. I think that maybe obedience and surrender, after a long period in a dark and ugly pit, is why He has allowed me here. I love it here and I am on my knees with my face pressed to the ground in thankgiving and praise.
All glory and honor to Him!
